Plans in Barcelona to enjoy in October

October, 1st, 2022. Written by Clara De Nadal Trias

Autumn is just around the corner, that's why in this post we propose a lot of plans in Barcelona to enjoy during the month of October.

Exhibition "Homage to Picasso"

Until October 2, the exhibition "Homage to Picasso", curated by Nadia Hernández, presents an extraordinary collection of 400 artistic rugs -recently acquired by the Vila Casas Foundation- intervened by more than 270 national and international authors, such as Rafael Alberti, Joan Brossa, Alexander Calder, Pau Casals, Equipo Crónica, Sonia Delaunay, Juan Genovés, Hans Hartung, Wilfredo Lam, Joan Miró, Pablo Neruda and Antoni Tàpies, among others. These artistic rugs dedicated to Picasso were created as a result of the initiative of the gallery owner, Santiago Palet, to show the indignation of the art world at the outrage against the artist, after the attack that destroyed the Taller Picasso gallery and the attacks on bookstores that were held in their windows the 90th anniversary of the painter in 1971.

Cinema and Fashion. Jean Paul Gaultier

Until October 23, Caixaforum projects the link between the world of the big screen and fashion, from the personal perspective of the fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, who, beyond his cinephile obsessions, reflects on the role of both industries in the society as potential engines of transformation. Thus, until almost the end of the month, we will be able to discover how cinema and fashion influence each other, delving into key aspects such as female empowerment or the influence of rock, punk and 'queer' cultures. All through works by great designers –such as Coco Chanel, Balenciaga, Pierre Cardin and Sybilla–, nearly 70 iconic film looks, more than 90 audiovisual projections and original posters and photographs. A must visit!

Exhibition “Mrs. Death” by Amèlia Riera

Until November 6, the exhibition “Mrs. Death” presents La Vierreina, the most Protestant work by Amèlia Riera, an unclassifiable artist and, at the same time, a pioneer in terms of her practice from a gender perspective, a surrealism far removed from her peers, and a work on fetishes and dramatization that anticipates the present time. The exhibition focuses on the most rebellious work of the artist: the 'cruel objects' that she produced between the mid-sixties and the end of the seventies and that show her permanent criticism of everything. In that period, the denunciation permeates all facets of his work; from painting to installations, through drawing, graphic work and even the creation of his own character. Admission to the exhibition is free, but it is necessary to reserve it through its website.

Visit “La Model” prison for free

After more than two years of hiatus due to the restrictions of the Covid, the doors are open to the historic “La Model” prison by recovering free visits for all citizens. This means that you can freely tour the emblematic building inaugurated in 1904 and it will be possible to visit all its most outstanding places: the patios, the galleries, the cells or the central panopticon. In addition, the open doors will coexist with guided tours that are carried out on a regular basis and that are also free, for which it is necessary to book a ticket in advance on the website. Open hours are Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the other hand, the City Council will also offer various guided tours for students and schools, who can also make a reservation through the website

Do you know La Textile Collective?

Much more than a restaurant, La Textil Collective proposes a multifunctional space in which careful preparations with fire as the central element are tasted, as well as informal recipes together with craft beers made in the same establishment. Thus, La Textil houses a restaurant, a bar and a brewery, giving rise to a space in which not only eat and drink -very well and with new gastronomic proposals, references to beer and signature cocktails- but also DJ sessions are also scheduled, while a large central fire turns the kitchen into a show in itself.

As you can see, there are no lack of excuses. Get ready to enjoy Autumn in Barcelona!
